ACID, ALKALI AND PH

The “p” stands for potential and the “H” stands for Hydrogen. A scientific explanation would state that pH refers to the plant’s ability to attract hydrogen ions.  A less scientific explanation says pH is the acid/alkaline balance.

Acids and alkali are both corrosive, and acids generally taste sour and alkali taste bitter.

Use of acids and alkali in daily life

Bacteria in the mouth digest food, and produce acids at the same time, which causes tooth decay. Toothpaste contains alkali which helps to neutralise bacteria

Shampoo and facial cleanser contain alkali which makes the hair and skin very dry. By using shampoo and facial cleanser with mild acids, it helps to restore the acidity level of the body.
