Through this experiment, I get to see the separation of inks into different components. We use 3 different brands of black markers to mark on the paper. After paper chromatography, the inks separated in different components:

I found out that different brands of inks had different components of colours which I did not expect to see.
Chromatography is used in many areas, such as to separate dyes from inks, identify drugs in urine samples and detect unpermitted additives in foodstuffs. It is commonly used because it is easy to handle, gives quick results and require small amounts of mixtures.
